Verse of the Day -- Genesis 12:3

I will bless those who bless (Israel). And the one who curses you I will curse . . .

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

America has been blessed by her support of Israel.

MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY

Long-standing support of Israel has brought blessing to America. When someone offers a blessing, they wish well or offer a prayer on behalf of themselves or someone else (Genesis 49, Deuteronomy 33). In the Old Testament:
  • God offered blessings to those who follow Him faithfully.
the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today —Deuteronomy 11:27
  • He provided His followers with salvation.
Salvation belongs to the LORD;
Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.
—Psalm 3:8
  • He provided them with life.
It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the LORD commanded the blessing—life forever.
—Psalm 133:3
     See also Deuteronomy 4:40, Proverbs 4:4, 7:2.
  • He provided them with success.
Now therefore, may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord GOD, have spoken; and with Your blessing may the house of Your servant be blessed forever. —2 Samuel 7:29      See also Joshua 1:7, Psalm 1:2-3

God offers many other conditional promises today. For instance, in Revelation 1:3, God promises a special blessing just for reading and trying to understand the Book of Revelation.
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. —Revelation 1:3

And there "is" that time-spanning admonition to bless Israel:

And I will bless those who bless (Israel), And the one who curses you I will curse. —Genesis 12:3

Since Israel's amazing re-birth as a nation in 1948, until 2008, America steadfastly supported Israel with money and weapons. No doubt God blessed our nation, possibly even raising up America, in His timing, for that very purpose. But in 2009, a new political administration began in the U.S. that has given a cold shoulder to Israel. This is a first for America.

If the U.S. continues to withdraw support from Israel while demanding that she divide God's land with her enemies, it could be argued that the days of our blessed nation are numbered.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you." —Psalm 122:6
