Sandy Hook Educators Promote Gun Control Laws that Wouldn't Have Prevented Attack

Sandy Hook Educators Promote Gun Control Laws that Wouldn't Have Prevented Attack
by AWR Hawkins 5 Dec 2014, 12:45 PM PDT
On December 7, Sandy Hook educators Carol Wexler and Abbey Clements will appear on CBS News' Sunday Morning to push expanded background checks and capacity limits for ammunition magazines--two things that would have done nothing to prevent the attack on Sandy Hook from occurring.

Both teachers are members of the gun control group called Sandy Hook Educators for Gun Sense.

According to CBS News, the gun control group is pushing expanded background checks, magazine capacity limits, and "easier access to help for the mentally ill." Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza stole his guns, thereby bypassing any background check process, and magazine capacity has proven to be no hindrance to people determined to take life on a large scale. For example, Santa Barbara gunman Elliot Rodger had approximately 40 ten-round magazines to compensate for the ban on "high capacity" magazines when he committed his heinous act.

And while "easier access to help for mentally ill" is a noble action, Breitbart News previously reported that Mayo Clinic psychiatrist J. Michael Bostwick, M.D., warns that most mass shooters "are not mentally ill" or if they are, "it is [only] recognized after the fact."

Abbey Clements--one of the teachers who will be on Sunday Morning--claims "there have been nearly 100 shootings at American schools since the Sandy Hook tragedy."

On November 20, Breitbart News reported that the "nearly 100 school shootings" claim was created by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. It rests on statistics that include incidents with no fatalities and echoes many of the claims in Everytown for Gun Safety's study on "74 school shootings." Everytown includes stabbings and incidents without injuries as "shootings" in their list of 74.
